Employment Ministry of Bangladesh has requested Bangladeshis not to go to Maldives seeking jobs.
Quoting a Bangladeshi government official, a Bangladeshi newspaper reported that many people who visit the Maldives end up not getting any jobs and hence Bangladeshis should stop going to Maldives seeking jobs.
In addition the newspaper says that the Bangladeshi high commission in Maldives also requested Bangladeshis not to visit Maldives.
Most of the foreign workers in Maldives are Bangladeshis. They come to Maldives usually through an agent and end up not getting any jobs. This forces them to live in Maldives illegally.
