Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom has joined Maldives Reform Movement.
Elections Commission of the Maldives gave permission to form the part last week. The party has to get 3000 members within 3 months to get registered as a party.
Parties should have at least 10,000 members to be eligible for state funding.
The former president decided to form a new party after the Supreme Court decided that the extraordinary congress held by PPM was legit. PPM elected former President Yameen as the leader of the party in that congress.
Maumoon lost hope of getting back PPM after the Supreme Court decision.
MRM will be the third party to be formed with the backing of Maumoon. His first party was DRP and the second party was PPM.
