Elections Commission of the Maldives has stated that there is no reason to delay the parliamentary elections which is scheduled to be held on 6th April.
Elections Commission made the statement after People’s National Congress called to delay the election saying that there is no guarantee that the election will be free and fair.
The EC stated that despite the requests of PNC and PPM, their plan is to conduct the elections as scheduled as the commission does not believe that there is a legit reason to delay it.
The deadline to apply for the election was 21st February and 395 candidates applied to contest in the election.
