16 applicants have applied to be a member of the Elections Commission. Member of the Elections Commission, Ismail Habeeb is near the end of his term.
President’s Office opened application for the post on 13th February. According to Ibrahim Hoodh the spokesperson of the President, a total of 16 candidates applied for the post.
Hood did not reveal the identities of the applicants, but said that the names will be sent to the parliament very soon. According to some sources, Ismail Habeeb also applied for a second term.
Term of a member of the EC is 5 years, but members can apply for a second term.
EC members are appointed by the parliament based on the names sent to the parliament by the President’s office.
