State Trading Organization (STO) has stated that staple food items will be available from 112 islands at the same rate as Male’ from 112 islands. According to STO, so far, agents have been assigned in these 112 islands.
In addition, the company stated that they are planning to sign agreements with 10 more agents. Furthermore, the company stated that they are working with government agencies to find agents for 61 islands where they have not yet found an agent.
Today is a remarkable day in the history of Maldives as this will be the first time the government has arranged the sale of staple food items at a uniform price throughout the country. In the past many governments promised to do it but could not achieve it.
