Prisons Audit Commission has stated that some of the prisoners were freed through corruption.
The commission has submitted their report to Home Minister Imran Abdullah today. The commission was formed to assess the situation of the prisons in Maldives.
In a ceremony held to handover the report to the minister, the commission’s member Ahmed Mohammedfulhu said that the report was written based on international standards.
He said that it took 75 days to write the report and they have completed it.
“We have suggested 182 recommendations to reform the prisons” said Ahmed.
