Foreign Minister of the Maldives, Abdullah Shahid has stated that there are Maldivians in Sri Lanka with passports which expired 5 years ago.
The minister said that the government has requested the Sri Lankan government to renew their visas after fining them and based on a document issued by the Maldivian Embassy in Lanka.
The minister said that those without visa are now informing about it to the Maldivian Embassy and this. In addition he said that hundreds without visas were discovered after the Lankan authorities asked those without visas to register at police stations after the recent bombings in Sri Lanka.
Some Maldivians living in Lanka without a visa includes students and mastermind of 1988 terrorist Abdullah Lutfy.
