Day One of the Maldives Partnership Forum 2019, held in Kurumba Maldives, concluded successfully today.
The Forum was inaugurated by His Excellency Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, President of the Republic of Maldives during the Introductory Session: Welcome to Jazeera Raajje (Island Nation). During the course of the day, 3 plenary sessions were held. The first plenary session focussed on macroeconomic and fiscal overview. Presentations were delivered by His Excellency Ibrahim Ameer, Minister of Finance, and His Excellency Mohamed Aslam, Minister of National Planning and Infrastructure on government plans on public finance and spatial mapping respectively.
The second plenary session began with a keynote address delivered by His Excellency Faisal Naseem, Vice President of the Republic of Maldives. During his remarks, he stressed the importance of developing the social sector of the country. The theme for the second plenary session was on “Blue Economy: Addressing inclusivity and sustainability in economic development”. The Consultant at the Ministry of Economic Development, Mr Shuhad Ibrahim, delivered a presentation on the key policy interventions. The third plenary session was on “Enhancing Social Outcomes: Investing in healthcare, education and housing”. A presentation was delivered by Her Excellency Dr Aishath Ali, Minister of Education on the key projects and programme areas. Moderated panel discussions took place during each session with Cabinet Ministers as panelists.
Throughout the day, participants held bilateral meetings with Cabinet Ministers and senior officials from the Government of Maldives. This evening, His Excellency Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, President of the Republic of Maldives, will host a dinner in honour of the visiting delegations.
Day Two will commence at 09:00am in Kurumba Maldives and will cover the plenary sessions on addressing issues on governance and justice, and partnering with the private sector for development.
