Japanese government has donated 4.6 million dollars to MNDF to buy vessels to use in emergencies.
An agreement was signed to donate the amount. Under this grant MNDF will purchase a landing craft and another vessel to use put out fires.
Japanese Ambassador Keeko Yanaai signed the agreement on behalf of Japan and handed the documents to Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid.
In addition the Japanese government donated 500 million Yen to develop the social sector of Maldives.
