Cambridge IFA, a UK-based financial intelligence house, hosted the second Woman in Islamic Business and Finance (WOMANi) Awards ceremony and gala dinner on the evening of June 17, 2019 in Dubai, UAE. In this ceremony, the top 300 most influential women in Islamic business and finance was named.
Dr Aishath Muneeza of Maldives has been recognized for being in the Top 50 Most Influential Women in Islamic Business and Finance 2019. In the ceremony held in Dubai, Dr Aishath Muneeza was conferred with WOMANi Award trophy and the certificate. WOMANi is a part of the women empowerment programme by Cambridge IFA to highlight enormously important roles that exceptionally talented women are playing in Islamic business and finance.
Dr Aishath Muneeza is a scholar of Islamic finance who is an Associate Professor of the Bank Negara Malaysia’s Islamic finance university. She is considered as one of the pioneers of Islamic finance who started her career in the Capital Market Development Authority of Maldives as the Islamic Finance consultant cum the Head of Islamic finance. She is also the first chairperson of Maldives Hajj Corporation and is the first female deputy minister of Ministry of Islamic Affairs. Furthermore, she is the former deputy minister of Ministry of Finance and Treasury. She has structured the first corporate sukuk and the sovereign private sukuk offered by the government of Maldives. She also facilitated the structuring of the first Islamic treasury bills offered in the country. She was also the consultant to realise the first ever Islamic microfinance project. Her academic contribution to Islamic finance is accepted globally and her publications on Islamic finance are used as reference materials in different parts of the globe.
