Maldives Monetary Authority’s currency gallery has been officially opened today.
The gallery will be open to public on weekdays from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. The gallery is located in the ground floor of MMA.
The gallery was officially opened by Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer today. The ceremony was attended by Qasim Ibrahim a former finance minister and governor of MMA.
Speaking at the ceremony MMA’s governor Ahmed Naseer said that the gallery is being opened on the occasion of the 38th anniversary of MMA.
The governor said that even during the planning stage of the building of MMA, it was decided that a currency gallery would be included in the building. He said that since MMA is the authority responsible for issuing currency in the Maldives it is important to show the history of currency in the Maldives.
The purpose of the gallery is to show the items used as currency in the Maldives and to show the present and past currencies of Maldives all in one place.
The anniversary of MMA is 1st July.
