Anti-Corruption Commission has revealed that the Maldives Monetary Authority would have known about the MMPRC’s embezzlement as it was happening.
ACC made this statement on a report written by the commission after investigating a report made by the financial intelligence report of the MMA. ACC investigated the matter because the financial intelligence unit did not forward the matter to investigative authorities.
Many people accuse of President Yameen of taking part in the MMPRC embezzlement and say that the former Tourism Minister Ahmed Adheeb couldn’t have done it alone. People say that how President Yameen treated AP and the former Auditor General is proof of his involvement in the matter.
According to ACC, as per the anti-money laundering and terrorism financing legislation, the Financial Intelligence Unit of MMA should share information of such actions if they suspect that such an activity is happening through the banks.
