Planning Minister Mohammed Aslam has stated that the government has contracted 36 projects worth MVR 1.1 billion so far this year.
The minister made this statement speaking at the parliament last Thursday. The minister was summoned to the parliament for questioning by MP Shareef. He said that the projects are 3 water systems projects, one sewage project, 11 water and sewage projects, 7 street development project, and 14 harbor development projects.
He said that the government is now negotiating with contractors to award 41 more projects. “There are 20 projects in tender process, there are some projects on donor funding pipeline, donor funding process is a bit different than normal tendering. There are 39 projects in this process. We hope that none of the projects that were budgeted for this year will not be stopped” said the minister.
In addition he said that the projects were included in the state budget after allocating a small amount of money and hence the projects can be started by the end of this year only after allocating budget from the next fiscal year.
