Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Zhang Lizhong has tweeted saying that the Chinese cooperation with Maldives stands the test of time and assured that China will respect the will of the government of Maldives and the people of Maldives.
In addition he stated that Chinese assistance will consider the needs of local development and attaches no political conditions. The Chinese ambassador invited Maldivians to take the express train of China’s development.
In another tweet today the Chinese ambassador also revealed details of the finances of China-Maldives Friendship Bridge.
According to the ambassador the total cost of the bridge is $200 million with 57.5% Chinese government grant. In addition 36.1% of the cost was financed with a preferential loan from Chinese bank and 6.4% was financed by the government of Maldives. The ambassador noted that Maldives will only pay 100 million dollars within 20 years and has a grace period of 5 years.
