Speaker of the parliament Mohammed Nasheed has stated that Maldives will not proceed with China-Maldives free trade agreement.
He made this statement while speaking to the press in New Delhi today. In addition he said that he does not see Chinese assistance as development assistance.
“Assets created via loans is always less than amount of loan. We have big bill to pay” said Nasheed.
Even today he repeated the claims that the Chinese loans are a debt trap. He also stated that the Chinese side views his statements as lies.
