The flights from China which are on their way to Maldives are coming without any passengers. Those flights were chartered by the Chinese government to repatriate Chinese tourists in the Maldives.
Maldives Airports Company Limited and the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives also stated that the flights will come without any passengers.
The government announced that they have decided to halt flights between Maldives and China. However some people pointed out that there are flights coming from China even today.
Even though the flights between Maldives and China are halted Maldivians wish the flights from China to be commenced as soon as possible. China is the largest source market of tourists to the Maldives.
Hence China is an important country to the Maldives as 80% of the economy relies on tourism.
