Speaker of the parliament and President of ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Mohammed Nasheed has stated that his party can win the local council elections despite the low turnout in the rally held by the party last night to launch their campaign officially.
Speaking at a press conference held by the party today, Nashed said that he agrees that the turnout was low but insisted that the party will win all the seats of Male’ City Council in the upcoming elections.
.Nasheed said that MDP won all the seats in the past elections as well and he said that based on that he predicts that MDP can win the upcoming elections as well.
Nasheed said that the turnout was low in last night’s rally because the government has not delivered some vital pledges.
Previously Nasheed said that the party will win over 60% of the local council seats.
