Elections Commission of the Maldives has stated that the local council election cannot be held as scheduled before.
The Elections Commission stated that they cannot hold the elections due to covid-19. Previously the commission planned to hold the elections on 18th April. However since the government decided to extend the state of health emergency until April 30th the election cannot be held according to the commission.
The parliament and the government are trying to find a solution as the term of the current councilors will be over by June 2020.
