Dr.Afeef has said that it will not be wise to test all citizens for covid-19 at the same time and that it will be dangerous to do so.
He said that if many people are negative at first, then those people will be over confident and might not follow orders of the doctors and hence it will be a catalyst in spreading the virus.
Dr.Afeef said that the best approach is to test people identified through contact tracing.
Some people are saying that it is important to increase the testing capacity of Maldives with the help of China as the virus is spreading fast.
“Have to talk about China as they have already provided a million kits to India. They even sent their own flights to Indian states to deliver the kits” said someone on twitter.
Since China is always ready to help, it is possible that they will send machineries and people to conduct tests here in Maldives. Government is testing people identified through contact tracing even now but last night Dr.Latheef noted that there is a delay as resources are limited.
Government said that they are expecting new test kits and a new machine.
