Fireworks display held to mark the opening of the New Terminal secures a place in Guinness Book of World Records

- Displays were staged at 19 locations 

The spectacular fireworks display held Saturday night to celebrate the opening of the New Terminal of Velana International Airport, has secured a place in Guinness Book of World Records. 

The letter of acceptance marking the record was handed to Maldives Airports company MACL at the special ceremony held on Sunday to inaugurate services to the first flight that operated to the new terminal.

The record was for the Best Synchronized Display at maximum locations.

The event saw simultaneous displays at 19 locations in Hulhumale and surrounding locations.

This dazzling event at the airport, staged to about 6,000 invitees in attendance was aired live, widely photographed and shared across mainstream media as well as social media.  

The Letter acknowledging the record was handed to MACL by an Adjudicator for Guinness World Records.

Guinness Book of World Records is an annual reference book that catalogs world records of human achievement and the extremes of the natural world.
