The government has decided that the national Airlines Maldivian will feature the name of Maldives – “Dhivehiraajje” on the aircraft in Thaana script Dhivehi.The move is made to coincide with celebrations marking the country’s 60th Independence Day, 26th of July.
Along with the name “Dhivehiraajje” in Thaana script, aircrafts will also feature the national flag.
The first aircraft to feature the upgraded branding is Maldivians’ widebody Airbus A330, which started operations from the newly opened Terminal of Velana International Airport. The new design will gradually be applied on all the 25 aircrafts of the Maldivian fleet. The fleet Includes an Airbus A330, an A320, five ATR aircraft, nine dash 8s, and 11 Twin Otter aircrafts.
The change is intended to reflect a spirit of patriotism, with the display of the country’s language, heritage and identity, reinforcing the national carrier’s role in representing the Maldives both at home and abroad.
According to the airline, the update is not only a visual change but also a symbolic gesture to celebrate the country’s independence, sovereignty, and unity. It also aims to express national pride and cultural significance of the language in a rapidly modernizing aviation industry.
Deputy Managing Director of Island Aviation Services which operate Maldivian Airlines Ali Saleem said it’s an honor for the airline to carry “Dhivehiraajje” in Thaana script on Maldivian aircrafts.
