President Dr Mohamed Muizzu Returns to Malé After Four-Day Baa Atoll Tour

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu concluded a four-day visit to 13 inhabited islands of Baa Atoll — Kamadhoo, Kudarikilu, Kendhoo, Eydhafushi, Thulhaadhoo, Goidhoo, Fehendhoo, Fulhadhoo, Hithaadhoo, Kihaadhoo, Dhonfanu, Dharavandhoo, and Maalhos — meeting councils, Women’s Development Committees, and residents to discuss development priorities and inspect ongoing projects.

Key highlights of the visit included the inauguration of ATM services by the Bank of Maldives across all inhabited islands in the atoll, and the official commencement of police station construction in Maalhos, Fehendhoo, Thulhaadhoo, and Goidhoo.

In a notable announcement, the President confirmed the handover of Maamaduvvaree to Hithaadhoo and Innafushi to Fulhadhoo. He also pledged to initiate land reclamation works for the development of Thulhaadhoo Airport and unveiled plans to upgrade Dharavandhoo Airport.

The trip further featured the launch of multiple development initiatives and the signing of agreements across various sectors. The President reviewed the progress achieved in 2025 to date and outlined projects scheduled for the coming year.

In his addresses to the public, President Dr Muizzu reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to genuine decentralization and community empowerment, stressing the importance of grassroots engagement and the pivotal role of local councils in delivering the national vision for sustainable development.

He reiterated his government’s dedication to working closely with communities, listening to their concerns, and driving transformative progress together.

Kamadhoo – Addressed needs for a new school, harbour, coastal protection, sports facilities, and road upgrades. Signed agreements for a school building and seaplane services.

Kudarikilu – Focus on stalled water/sewerage project, school completion with multipurpose hall, health centre upgrades, and mosque construction. Announced road works after utility completion.

Kendhoo – Discussed need for boatyard, harbour upgrades, land reclamation, waste management, and specialist doctor. Announced water/sewerage inauguration and pledged fulfilment of 10 key pledges.

Eydhafushi – Prioritised sports complex, infrastructure for reclaimed land, school expansion, health staffing, waste management, and electricity upgrades. Announced 1,000 housing units, harbour completion, and MNU campus. Inaugurated RTL ferry services.

Thulhaadhoo – Raised housing allocation, picnic island, airport project, court building, and health centre staffing. Announced 100 housing units, privatisation of reclaimed plots, and specialist health services.

Goidhoo – Addressed health centre upgrades, electricity for tourism zone, school expansion, harbour and coastal works, and eco-tourism. Inaugurated BML ATM and laid foundation for police station.

Fehendhoo – Discussed erosion, bridge repair, sports facilities, and mosque. Announced expansion of health services, teacher recruitment, and jetty with coastal protection. Inaugurated BML ATM and police station foundation.

Fulhadhoo – Urgent concerns over erosion, water/sewerage, harbour, healthcare lab, and worker accommodation. Announced water/sewerage start in August, tourism management handover for Innafushi, and mosque in 2026 budget.

Hithaadhoo – Land shortage, housing, harbour scope changes, erosion, and youth centre requested. Announced handover of Maamaduvvaree, new health centre with lab and dialysis, sports facilities, and multipurpose school hall. Inaugurated BML ATM.

Kihaadhoo – Raised water/sewerage delays, powerhouse relocation, school space, picnic island, ferry route changes, and science lab. Announced school extension, erosion control, health centre expansion, sports facilities, and children’s park. Inaugurated BML ATM.

Dhonfanu – Focus on water/sewerage, football field, land reclamation, council building, school upgrades, and health staffing. Announced six new classrooms, sports facilities, and 13-hectare reclamation. Inaugurated BML ATM.

Dharavandhoo – Prioritised airport upgrades, USD ATM, biosphere reserve office, housing, erosion control, hospital, and tourism facilities. Announced school expansion, harbour and road works, sports upgrades, and Island Aviation tasked with airport upgrade.

Maalhos – Requested harbour development, electricity expansion, powerhouse relocation, flood prevention, tourism beach, and school infrastructure. Announced sports field completion, multipurpose hall, and school expansion plans.

The President was accompanied by Cabinet Ministers and senior officials. The tour is part of his plan to visit all atolls and directly engage communities.
