Chinese Ambassador highlights New Era as Maldives and China sign Eleven MoUs

Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Kong Xinhua, has said that the signing of multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the Maldives and China will open new opportunities for cooperation between the two nations.

A total of eleven MoUs and agreements were signed on Tuesday during a group ceremony at the Wangfujing Hilton Hotel in Beijing. These agreements focus on key areas such as capacity building, economic development, infrastructure, and renewable energy, reflecting the commitment of both countries to strengthen their partnership and promote sustainable growth.

In a social media post, Ambassador Kong Xinhua expressed his delight in witnessing the successful signing alongside President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s delegation. He stressed that the agreements cover crucial sectors and reaffirm a shared resolve to enhance collaboration for sustainable development and mutual prosperity.

“This marks a new beginning as we join hands in cooperation and work together toward a brighter future,” he wrote.

Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed also welcomed the development, calling it an important step forward in advancing sustainable progress and building impactful partnerships.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is currently on an official visit to China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping to take part in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
