In GDh. Thinadhoo, a housing scheme has been announced through the “Hiyaavehi” portal to allocate 200 housing units built on the island. Applications for this scheme will be open on the 7th of this month.
According to the Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development, the housing scheme is being implemented under the government’s program to provide row houses built in Thinadhoo to the public.
The Ministry stated that applications for the 200 row houses in Thinadhoo will be accepted from 7th of this month. In addition, applications for row houses will also remain open until the 7th of the next month. Applications must be submitted through the Hiyaavehi portal (hiyaavehi.housing.gov.mv).
According to the Ministry, these row houses will be allocated to citizens who have been living in Thinadhoo for at least 10 years or to those who, for employment purposes, need to relocate to Thinadhoo. Applicants must also be Maldivian citizens aged 18 years or older.
The criteria for eligibility include that the applicant should not already own a building of 600 square feet or larger, nor possess housing in any other island. Likewise, those who already own a flat or housing unit provided under any other government housing scheme will not be eligible.
The evaluation criteria also consider family size, living conditions, income, and other special factors. Points will not be awarded to those who apply under false information, who already benefit from another scheme, or who fail to meet the requirements. Such applications will be disqualified during the evaluation process by the Ministry or the designated committee.
The Ministry stated that the first announcement for application for row houses in Thinadhoo was made in January of this year. However, the Ministry noted that as Thinadhoo Council’s arrangements were not in place, the allocation was postponed accordingly.
The construction of the 200 row houses in Thinadhoo began in 2022. These houses consist of three categories.
