Parts of Hulhumalé Phase II were plunged into darkness late Saturday night following a deliberate attempt to sabotage a STELCO substation. According to the State Electric Company (STELCO), the incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. when the network feeder was rendered inoperative.
Power was fully restored by 4:56 a.m. after repair teams worked swiftly to fix the damage. STELCO confirmed that the matter has been reported to the relevant authorities, and additional measures are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The company strongly condemned such acts, warning that they pose serious risks to public safety while causing significant inconvenience to residents. STELCO also appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing any information regarding individuals involved in such acts of sabotage.
Apologizing for the disruption, STELCO reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring a reliable and secure power supply.
