Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer has said that the government’s ongoing economic reforms are generating growing interest from both local and international investors, including major global companies.
He made the remarks while speaking at the inauguration ceremony marking the commencement of practical works for the land reclamation project linked to the development of Dhidhdhoo Airport.
The Minister said the reforms form part of wider national development efforts and that their positive impact is already becoming evident. He noted that increasing investor interest in development projects reflects this trend, adding that several internationally recognized companies have expressed interest in undertaking land reclamation projects in the Maldives. He assured that the government will ensure all companies awarded development contracts possess the required capacity and expertise to deliver projects successfully.
Addressing speculation that the government plans to hand over the management of the Malé Commercial Port to a foreign company, the Minister firmly denied the claims. He stressed that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu would not take any decision that does not serve the public interest, and that all government actions are guided by the welfare of the people.
The Minister also emphasized the current administration’s commitment to sustainable and well-planned development, noting that many past projects lacked adequate planning and long-term sustainability. He said the administration under President Muizzu is now pursuing a more structured, people-centred approach to national development.
