Maldives received over 85,000 tourists in the first 12 days of the year.

According to Tourism Ministry statistics, a total of 85,591 tourists arrived in January so far, compared to 77,727 during the same period last year, marking a 10.01 percent increase. The highest single-day arrival was recorded on 11 January, when 9,596 tourists entered the country.

The main source markets were Russia with 15,430 arrivals, followed by Italy with 10,833, the United Kingdom with 6,729, Germany with 5,098, and China with 4,070.

Tourism Ministry data shows the Maldives is currently receiving an average of around 7,000 tourists per day. Of the total arrivals, 59,250 tourists stayed at resorts, while 21,761 opted for local guesthouses.

At present, 1,339 tourist accommodation facilities, including resorts, are registered in the Maldives, offering a combined bed capacity of 67,664.

The growth in the tourism sector has been attributed to the increase in tourist arrivals, along with expanded bed capacity across resorts and guesthouses.

The government has set a target to raise tourism earnings to USD 6 billion by 2027, adding 6,665 beds as part of efforts to achieve this goal. The government also noted that tourism has been introduced to new atolls as part of its strategy to further expand the sector.
