Maldives Ambassador Praises China’s Development Policies

Maldives’ Ambassador to China, Dr Fazeel Najeeb, has highlighted China’s policy framework as a strong example for developing nations, noting that several of the country’s strategies could provide useful guidance for countries such as the Maldives.

Dr Najeeb made the remarks during an interview with Chinese media while attending China’s annual “Two Sessions” meetings in Beijing.

In an exclusive interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN), the ambassador shared his views on China’s upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan as well as the government’s annual work report. He said China’s long-term development strategies are expected to bring benefits not only to its own economy but also to developing countries that maintain close economic ties with China.

According to Dr Najeeb, China’s policymaking reflects careful consideration of global trends and changing international conditions. He noted that the country has introduced comprehensive and forward-looking policies that could serve as a model for other developing economies.

He also stressed the importance of China continuing along its current path of development and reform.

Dr Najeeb described the Two Sessions as one of the most important events in China’s political calendar. He said he had attended the meetings both last year and this year, expressing satisfaction with the organisation of the sessions and the range of policy proposals presented by the Chinese government.

The annual meetings, which began last week, typically run for one to two weeks and play a key role in outlining China’s economic and development priorities for the coming years.

During the sessions, Chinese leaders are expected to discuss plans related to economic growth and national development under the leadership of President Xi Jinping. The meetings are also expected to address recent political developments, including the dismissal of several senior military officials and the ongoing anti-corruption campaign led by the Chinese leadership.
