Maldivian Expands Presence in China with New Sales Partnership

Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has appointed MEGACAP Aviation Services Limited as its General Sales Agent in China, in a move aimed at strengthening connectivity and boosting tourist arrivals from one of the country’s most important markets.

The airline currently operates wide-body A330-200 aircraft on routes serving China, with direct flights launched in January 2025. These services have already contributed to a noticeable increase in Chinese visitors to the Maldives.

Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas said the Chinese market remains a key priority for Maldivian’s international expansion strategy. He noted that partnering with MEGACAP reflects the airline’s strong commitment to the region and is expected to help build deeper commercial ties while encouraging more Chinese travellers to visit the Maldives.

The airline also expects the partnership to enhance its brand visibility in China and strengthen collaboration with major players in the country’s tourism industry, supporting long-term growth.

China continues to play a vital role in the Maldives’ tourism sector. Official data shows that 329,110 Chinese tourists visited the Maldives last year, marking a 25 percent increase compared to the previous year. As of mid-March this year, arrivals from China have reached 86,464, accounting for a growing share of the overall tourist market.
