Major Traffic Changes Announced as Boduthakurufaanu Magu Project Enters Final Phase

Authorities have announced significant traffic changes in Malé as the government prepares to begin the final phase of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project.

The Maldives Police Service confirmed that the coastal road from Izzuddin Jetty to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal will be fully closed from midnight, to allow construction work on the remaining sections of the project to proceed.

Work on segments two to five is scheduled to begin on Monday, following the completion of earlier phases stretching from the Local Market to the North Harbour.

According to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), the project involves upgrading approximately 700 metres of roadway with modern asphalt. A key component includes the construction of a 610-metre seawall, which will support road expansion and improve capacity along the busy coastal route.

The redevelopment will also feature improved drainage systems, pedestrian walkways and upgraded street lighting, in line with the standards implemented in previously completed sections.

Police have instructed the public to remove all vehicles from the construction area to ensure smooth progress of the work.

As part of the changes, ferry operations from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal will be relocated to Maafannu and Hulhumalé terminals during the construction period.

Officials also confirmed that the Fishermen’s Park area will remain unaffected by the project.

The large-scale redevelopment aims to modernise one of Malé’s key transport corridors and improve overall traffic flow and infrastructure along the northern waterfront.
