Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, and SriLankan Airlines have announced a strategic partnership set to reshape regional air travel and significantly enhance global connectivity.
The agreement aims to strengthen links between the Maldives and a broader international network, improving passenger access across both airlines’ extensive route systems.
At the heart of the partnership is a plan to channel more international travellers into the Maldivian archipelago. Under the arrangement, Maldivian will accommodate a greater number of passengers arriving via SriLankan Airlines’ global network, seamlessly connecting them from Malé to 17 domestic destinations across the country.
This initiative is expected to provide smoother, more efficient travel for visitors from key global markets, enabling easier access to the Maldives’ renowned atolls through convenient transit in Colombo. In turn, Maldivian travellers will benefit from enhanced international connectivity, gaining more flexible travel options via Colombo to a wide range of destinations served by SriLankan Airlines and its Oneworld partners.
Managing Director of Maldivian, Ibrahim Iyas, described the partnership as a significant milestone in expanding access to the Maldives and strengthening connectivity beyond the capital to the atolls.
“With SriLankan Airlines’ extensive global reach and our domestic network, this collaboration will support tourism growth while also making international travel more convenient for Maldivians,” he said.
The partnership reflects a shared commitment by both airlines to deepen regional cooperation, integrate their networks, and deliver a more seamless and enhanced travel experience for passengers.
