The People’s Majlis has approved 14 ministers appointed following the recent Cabinet restructuring carried out by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The approvals came after the nominees submitted by the President were reviewed and endorsed by the Parliament’s Government Oversight Committee before being put to vote in the Majlis.
The Cabinet reshuffle, implemented on 14 and 15 April, reduced the number of ministries from 20 to 15. As part of the changes, 10 ministers stepped down, stating that the restructuring was aimed at improving flexibility in implementing institutional reforms.
Following the reshuffle, President Muizzu appointed five new ministers and reassigned nine members of the previous Cabinet to ministries formed under the new structure.
In accordance with the Constitution, ministers appointed after changes to the Cabinet are required to obtain parliamentary approval before assuming full legal powers. The Majlis held separate votes to approve each nominee.
Among those approved were Hassan Rasheed as Minister of Defence and National Security, Moosa Zameer as Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Ali Ihusaan as Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology, and Iruthisham Adam as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
