Denying the claims of Adhaalath Party leader Sheikh Imran Abdulla, the government has stated that President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has no knowledge that former Defence Minister Colonel Mohamed Nazim was framed.
The President’s Office noted that the President met with the Adhaalath Party leader Sheikh Imran Abdulla along with six other members of the party at the request of Sheikh Imran.
The President’s Office stated that Sheikh Imran requested the President to withdraw the charges against Colonel Nazim as he believes that he was framed.
The President replied that he is not aware whether Colonel Nazim was framed or not, according to the President’s Office.
The President’s Office further noted that the President told Sheikh Imran that the constitution does not give him the authority to withdraw charges made by the independent prosecutor general of the state.
They said that the President requested the Adhaalath Party leader to join the legal team of Colonel Nazim if he believes that he has enough evidences to prove the innocence of Nazim.
