Jumhooree Party Deputy Leader Ameen Ibrahim has said that the government of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom is trying to destroy the political carriers of their opponents one by one.
Ameen made this remark at the public rally held last night by the opposition.
Speaking at the rally entitled “Maldivians against tyranny” held at Artificial Beach Area, Ameen said that the government is imprisoning and detaining all the political opponents of President Yameen.
In this regard, he said that President Mohamed Nasheed has been imprisoned with a 13 year jail sentenced.
Former Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim has been imprisoned with an 11 year jail sentence issued by the Criminal Court last night.
“The government wants to be a headline maker. What is it that the government wants? Why is that the government not know to do things like mature people? Now they are closing down businesses at 10,” he said.
He said that the people are coming out to the streets in defence of the political prisoners. He said that they are appealing the President to release them.
