Deputy Leader of the Jumhooree Party, Dr. Hussein Rasheed has said that the present government has been destroying small and medium enterprises.
Dr. Hussein said that the government however claims that it is from their pledges to give opportunity to small and medium enterprises but in the one and half years of the government the opposite is witnessed.
He said that the government in this regard has stopped giving the subsidies on electricity to small and medium enterprises thereby leading them to bankruptcy.
Dr. Hussein said that many of the islands with these small enterprises have very less populations and therefore the customer volume is very low. He said that many of those enterprises sell goods with a small profit because of the financial status of the people.
“The people can buy goods based on their buying strength. The people won’t buy if the price of goods are beyond their reach,” he said.
He added that the government is betraying their own presidential pledges and now has increased the electricity usage charges by removing the subsidy.
