MDP Deputy Leader Mohamed Shifaz has said that the opposition will not back away from advocating for the rights of the people regardless of the intimidation and oppression by the government.
He made this remark at the “To end oppression” march of the opposition held at Friday evening. He said that the freedom of assemble is a right granted to the people by the constitution and the government cannot stop the people from using that right.
During the protest, Shifaz called the government to release former President Mohamed Nasheed. He said that the sentence issued on MDP leader Nasheed is unjust and unfair. He said that the trial was very biased and the whole international world criticized the trial.
He said that President Yameen should release him if he has any sincerity. “President Nasheed is a leader loved and supported by many people. Many of the people are holding protests every night calling for his release,” he said.
