The perennial question now is whether Maldives can live as Maldivians in Maldives?
In addition of being Muslims, Maldivians have their own culture and traditions. They are a people with a set of moral codes and ethics. They are people who want to uphold those principles.
There are different levels of religiosity among the Maldivians. However, regarding family like and other matters, they will not got beyond their moral boundaries.
However, today the previously mentioned question remains as the hot question. Well, there are enough reasons to ask such a question. I will here just highlight a very small issue. The picture that you see with this article was shared by many on social media. Many shared it on facebook and twitter.
The first question is: “Is it lawful to wear such attire in Maldives?” The second question is: “If it is prohibited by law then why is it not stopped when it has become a repeated offence?” The third question is: “Is there not any legal parental institution to take responsibility of it now that it has become rampant in the Maldivian society?”
This is the fourth writing I write on this issue. The first one was published in 2010. Then it was a tourist who donned such a clothing.

It was said that Passenger lines come via an agency and tourists walk the streets with the supervision of a tour guide therefore such incidents happen when tour guides forget to make the tourists aware of Maldivian culture.
Yes, the case disappeared to thin air. Why? That tour guide that is said to be supervising the tourist was never seen that day. He disappeared into thin air.
I wrote a similar article on 2012. From the discussions that came into motion with it, I came to know that there is not enough money in the budget to set up boards reminding tourists what not to wear.
Every individual will have their own national responsibilities. Under that, with much efforts four boards were made.
I was ascertained that it will be set up within the law. However up until now, this has not seen the day light. Perhaps the legal process is a tad bit too long.
Despite all of this, the artificial beach of the capital Male’ is a place many people go to enjoy and spend some family time. Kids have super fun time with their parents taking a swim there. So will it be the best thing for them to see tourists wearing almost nothing in this hundred percent Muslim Maldives?
These are things that can be easily stopped. Yes, that is if the authorities want it to be stopped. If tourists from a passenger line wears such skimpy clothes or wear nothing then the agent can be fined. If this is done then definitely the agents will be more careful of these issues. The same can be done to guesthouses.
Tourists will usually respect our culture if they are given the right information and awareness.
