Students from all schools in Maldives held a walk to mark the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Maldivian Independence.
Over 20,000 students from 22 schools took part in the activity, which was held in all islands.
Home Minister Umar Naseer stated that students, in addition to adults, have to be more aware of the importance of an independent nation. He added that an independent nation can only be maintained by the participation of all and that children must also be aware of that.
Minister Umar declared that the walk was a success as record number of students took part in the walk.
Education Minister Dr. AishathShiham stated that students would be more aware of independence and their role in the state due to the walk. She added that special activities would be held in all schools to foster the spirit of Islam and nationalism.
Today’s walk in Male’ was concluded when a parachutist landed in the stadium, armed with the national flag and Minivan 50 logo.
