US$ 15 million agreement signed for INIA runway repair
A signing ceremony was held today at Hulhule Island Hotel (HIH) between Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) and Sinohydro Corporation Ltd for runway repairing and asphalt re-surfacing at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA).

The project is estimated to be around USD 15 million, with the project to be finished before end of October.

The contract was signed by Maldives Airports Company Ltd’s Managing Director Adil Moosa and Sinohydro Corporation Ltd Project Manager Hei Shaoyu. Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, Minister for Youth and Sports Ahmed Zuhoor, Chinese Ambassador Wang Fukang and Chairman of MACL Board of Directors M. U. Manik were present in the ceremony.
The official signing ceremony was attended by senior members of both companies.

Speaking in the ceremony Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb stated that this agreement was a boon to the future of the airport as at the end of the project, INIA would gain an additional runway and parking spaces. He added that this would give the airport users a better experience. Minister Adeeb added that without developing the airport the sector would not thrive. He also added that airport development has been prioritized by the Government.

Adhil Moosa stated that with the new developments, hydraulic leaks from planes can be prevented. He also stated that the project would be overseen by a German company.
