Service of fish cutting has hit record prices in Male’ Fish Market. The fish depicted above sells for MVR 7, while larger fish sells for MVR 15 and some varieties of fish are selling for around MVR 13.
Many have reported that these prices are higher than normal. The biggest issue in the market is there is no public display of prices. The prices are issued by the teller.
Some reported that the Fish Market provided a public service and therefore should not be a focal point of territorial fights between Housing Ministry and City Council. They also noted that some considerations have to be given to this issue, in the same manner as waiving the fines for motorcycles.
