MDP representatives for the MDP and Government talks, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) has stated that the results of the discussions will be apparent to the public soon.
Ibu stated last night that that they had presented their cases on the issues of those serving prison sentences, those undergoing lengthy trials and the issues facing businesses. He added that the discussions were carried out successfully.
Ibu said that he hoped that all will be able to enjoy a free atmosphere at on the Golden Jubilee celebrations. He also noted that Jumhooree Party and Adhaalath Party had presented similar stipulations as MDP and as such it is vital that the discussions were carried out with the two parties.
Home Minister Umar Naseer, lead negotiator of the Government, stated that if the negotiations proceed as planned, then the results would become apparent soon. He added that a hotline will be established to resolve issues if they arise between the negotiators.
He said that so far only three discussions have been held and that had already contributed towards diffusing the situation. Umar also said that the Government had no intention of carrying out the cases of minor offenses but will not categorize criminal offenses as political issues.
Minister Umar spoke on the case of former MP Nazim and former Defense Minister Mohamed Nazim citing that the Government will give any possible leniency only when the trial period was over and only under the parole system.
