Jumhooree Party Leader Qasim Ibrahim has stated that there was no issue in impeaching the Vice President if there was no mutual grounds between the Vice President and the President.
He made the statement speaking to press after yesterday’s session of the Parliament. Qasim said that as the President chooses his running mate, there was no issue in the President choosing his Vice President.
Qasim stated that there were legal provisions to remove Vice President from the position in the event to do so and that yesterday’s motion had been carried out under the said legal provisions. Therefore, he said that this was neither the time for celebrations or dismay. He added that the purpose of a Vice President was to step in and assume the leadership of the nation in the event the President is incapacitated. He also said that the duty of the VP was to follow the lead given by the President.
Therefore, Qasim noted there was no difference between the impeachment of a Vice President and dismissal of a cabinet Minister.
He added that all have to fully observe the rule of law and called on all to fulfill their political pledges and actions.
