Fisheries and Agriculture Minister Dr. Mohamed Shainee has stated that seven areas are to be drilled in the search for oil and gas, as scientists have determined that there was a high probability that gas and oil can be found in the country.
Speaking in a press conference held in Velaanaage, Dr. Shainee stated that two experts from Germany had conducted such tests and drilling is to be carried out on seven locations. He added that a type of coral that grows near oil and gas deposits have been found in the sea and stated that this had given support to the research.
Dr. Shainee stated that an English company had already submitted their proposal for oil exploration. He also stated that the Norwegian company will submit their proposal on 9th September.
