Amaal Ali, a distinguished service person in the Education sector, has stated that the late Abdullah Hameed had started the culture of having prayer congregations in school.
She said that in schools, prayer was taught from books and never demonstrated prior to Abdullah Hameed’s reform. Amaal added that prayer congregations during school session were started in the tenure of late Abdullah Hameed as Education Minister.
Amaal stated that Quran studies were also first introduced as a subject by Abdullah Hameed.
She noted that Abdullah Hameed had attended school assemblies and addressed students during his tenure as the Minister. She said that in those speeches, he had spoken mainly on respecting religion, importance of nationalism and fostering national spirit among students.
