Commissioner General of Customs Abbas Adil Riza has stated that 99 percent of importers do not have issues in their documentation.
Speaking to press on the procedures of the department, Abbas stated that Customs will process the invoices submitted by importers at the prices quoted in the invoices. After that, Customs will get one year to verify the prices in the invoices and if they are incorrect, Customs will investigate the errors.
He added that Customs will retrieve all the penalties and fees payable to the Government from the importers and will work in alliance with the Government agencies to do so.
Abbas stated that the main aim of Customs was to ensure that the customers had speedy access to Customs services and reduce the amount of time spent in Customs.
He said that 60 percent of Declaration Forms and 80 percent of air cargo clearing forms are submitted online. Abbas cited this as a key win for Customs.
Abbas said that customs forms can now be processed from Kulhudhuffushi. He added that it was also the aim of Customs to ensure that most of their services were available via the virtual centers.
Abbas also noted that the Customs archive was notable both locally and internationally.
