High Court supports VP Adeeb’s remand period
High Court has issued a ruling supporting the 15 day remand period issued by Criminal Court for Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor in connection to his arrest on suspicion of having connections to the assassination attempt of 28th September.

Criminal Court set the 15 day remand period, when VP Adeeb was summoned to Court on 25th October. Appeal hearings for the remand period were carried out on Sunday and concluded on Monday. VP Adeeb was made privy to the proceedings, via video conferencing to his cell in Dhoonidhoo detention center.

High Court ruling stated that remand periods are set on the basis of suspicion of a crime and therefore, the appeal grounds were nullified.
Judge Abdulla Didi presided over the case, in addition to Judge Ali Sameer and Judge Abdu Rauf.

He was arrested on arrival on the 24th of October after returning back from a formal visit to China.

Ruling coalition MPs had already submitted a motion of no confidence towards VP Adeeb. He has been served the legally mandated 14 day notice to prepare for his defense.
