Prominent Lawyer Maumoon Hameed have stated that it is worrying that JSC keeps suspending lawyers when requested by state institutions, even though there are mechanisms to take action against lawyers.
Maumoon Hameed said that former assistant PG Hussen Shameem was suspended by a request from Maldives Police Service. He said that he does not believe that the decision is right because he was suspended indefinitely until the police asks to lift the suspension. Hussein Shameem said that reasons revealed by police spokesperson Shifan after suspending Shameem, does not have any legal basis.
In addition he said that he believes that he should be informed about the exact reason of suspension but he learned about the suspension from media.
