Shareef appointed as the president of the elections commission
Ahmed Shareef who was appointed as a member of the elections commission today has been made the president of the commission.

It was announced during a press conference held at elections center today. In a ceremony held earlier today, Shareef was given the credentials of the post by president Yameen.

In the parliament session held today 32 members out of the 33 members who took part in today’s session voted in favor of appointing Shareef. MP Naazim Rashaaf of Thulhaadhoo voted against Shareef.

Meanwhile the opposition coalition members boycotted today’s session. However the opposition members took part in the committee meeting which analyzed Shareef’s name.

Shareef received 77.3% marks from the committee proceedings. The minimum marks required is 75%. Shareef was appointed as the president of EC because the position has been vacant since Sulaiman the former President of EC resigned. Shareef also filled the position of SG of EC in the past.
