Opposition coalition have said that an activist of a political party cannot be the President of Elections Commission.
Speaking at a press conference held by the opposition today, MP Shaah of Fuvahmulah constituency said that an activist of a political party cannot hold the position of president in a commission which should function impartially.
Shaah said that it is hard to accept when an activist of a political party says that he has changed and will act independently. He said that those who aim to serve in independent commissions should act in an impartial way in advance.
The opposition coalition made this statement after former MD of Fenaka Ahmed Shareef got appointed as the President of the Elections. Till last week he was an active member of PPM and even took part in rallies.
