Former Commissioner of Police Ahmed Areef who was arrested yesterday have called to uphold rule of law. Areef was arrested yesterday after searching his apartment. He is being detained for allegedly conspiring to overthrow the government.
Areef's lawyer Riffath tweeted today saying that he met Areef in Dhoonidhoo Detention Center last night and that he is in good spirits. Riffath tweeted saying that Areef denies all the charges against him. Riffath also said that Areef asked everyone to uphold rule of law.
Areef was dismissed on 2nd February and apparently, he was dismissed after the President was not able to call him. After dismissing him his passport was also withheld with a court order.
After announcing a state of emergency on 5th February, security services have arrested various people for allegedly conspiring to overthrow the government. Those arrested include Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed, Justice Ali Hameed, former President Maumoon, Former CP Riyaz and some more parliament members.
